The creation of the range of DROP D custom 3D printed guitar picks, starts life as an Adobe Illustrator drawing. The product mockups below show the dimensions of the DROP D range of guitar picks, and information on the curvatures and angles used in the design. These illustrations are then exported in Autodesk Fusion and rendered as a printable 3D model of the highest quality.
Designing in 2D for 3D printing
Creating the βTiny Thingsβ 3D models required adapting known ways of working in Adobe Illustrator to create 2D images, and integrating these with new workflows in Autodesk Fusion to create a printable 3D model.
Once the 3D model has been created, the file is imported into the 3D print software for colouring and slicing. At this point we get print timings and can adjust the slice and print setting to achieve a high quality print aligned to the 3D model design.
This new workflow and design understanding has led to numerous other 3D printing projects for local business wanting to incorporate 3D printed materials in their sales and marketing.
DROP D guitar picks are not only playable, but beautiful, and stand out from the crowd with their range of colours, and unique design choices. Every pick is designed, modelled, and printed using 100% renewable energy. Each pick is 100% recyclable, and 100% playable. The picks can range in thickness from 0.6mm through to 2mm and above, with a choice for every guitar player and every style of guitar playing.
Each pick is printed using a 0.2mm nozzle for the ultimate in 3D printing precision. The picks are modelled with chamfered edges for maximum playability, and feature a gripped back so they donβt miss a string.
The filament used in the 3D printing process is made from PLA; PLA stands for polylactic acid, a type of plastic made from renewable resources like corn starch, sugarcane, cassava, or sugar beet pulp. It's a bioplastic that we use to create each pick.
All DROP D Guitar picks are made using Solar Energy, which means that they could be the most sustainable guitar picks ever!
